Description

LUXAPOOL Poolside & Paving is an acrylic based, trafficable, rubberised, durable coating for exterior use especially in poolside areas. The resultant surface is naturally textured to provide a superior standard of non-slip, even under wet conditions. Textured effects may also be varied using special rollers in final application. In-film anti-mould ingredients provide long lasting resistance from mould and fungus attack.

Areas Of Use

LUXAPOOL Poolside & Paving is designed to provide a controlled safe surface for most poolside and paved areas subject to leisure activities, family sports and pedestrian traffic. Typical areas include aged pebblecrete swimming pool surrounds and concrete and sandstone surfaces, together with exposed and covered decks and balconies where a decorative non-slip surface is desired.

Features

• Water based single pack resilient acrylic coating
• Safe non-slip surface even under wet conditions
• Textured, elastic, seamless and waterproof
• Extremely durable, tough and trafficable
• Resistant to algae, mould and fungi growth

INSTALLATION

Preparation

The surface to be coated must be stable, clean and dry, and free from any dust, laitance, loose aged paint, greases and oils.
New concrete should be allowed at least 28 days cure prior to coating. New rendered surfaces should be allowed to cure for 7 days. Both need to be acid washed with 3 water : 1 acid allow 20 minutes contact time, then flush with fresh water. Small cracks may be filled with initial application of Sportscote PFR. All visible cracks, holes, etc exceeding 2mm must be repaired using approved sealants/caulks, after priming, and prior to the application of the topcoat.

Application

All surfaces should be properly prepared and primed prior to application with either Superseal Primer or Acrylmeric WB Epoxy Primer Membrane.

Superseal Primer must be used for pebblecrete and similar ‘non-porous’ areas. Acrylmeric WB Epoxy Primer Membrane is a 2 pack water-based alternative and may be used on porous surfaces such as sandstone, cement render. Whatever the surface porosity, it is highly recommended that a sample area be prepared before proceeding to final specifications.

LUXAPOOL Poolside & Paving is a one component material and supplied ready for use. However, stirring with a mechanical mixer immediately prior to application is recommended to ensure homogeneity. Apply by medium nap roller or hopper gun spray to the specified film thickness (~490 µm WFT). Brushes may be employed for small areas. Application by hopper guns may require thinning with water up to 10% by volume. Pebblecrete surfaces require specific application procedures and advice is detailed in the brochure Application Details for Aged Pebblecrete Surfaces.

A minimum of 2 coats is recommended, with polyester fabric reinforcement placed over all cracks and any joints between dissimilar substrates within a preliminary coat of Sportscote PFR. Embed the fabric into the first wet coat of membrane, and then, after drying, apply the LUXAPOOL Poolside & Paving as above.

Do not apply below 15oC, or in damp or rainy or conditions, or when rain is forecast within 24
hours.

Texture

The final texture may be varied significantly by application technique with the final one or two coats. Application by medium nap roller, without any additional techniques, will leave a raised profile suited to high traffic areas, and providing maximum non-slip effect. Lower profiles more accommodating to poolside areas and bare foot traffic should be final rolled with metal or plastic consolidation rollers after standard medium nap application. By varying the roller type and roll pattern, a variety of both decorative and functional effects may be created, all giving a high degree of safety under even wet conditions. Refer to CMI for additional details.

Durability and Cleaning Enhancement

The general durability, especially stain resistance and ease of cleaning of surfaces finished with LUXAPOOL Poolside & Paving, may be further enhanced. Allow 6 hours minimum dry, then apply CMI Unicryl HD Clear Glaze by medium nap roller at approximately 6m2/L.

Coverage

Surface type and texture affects the coverage rate. Generally, the recommended spreading rates are:

Horizontal Surfaces: 2m2/L /coat, minimum 2 coats, for 575 microns DFT.

Pebblecrete Surfaces: Calculate the initial coat @ 1 m2/L so as to fill the profile, and then as per above spreading rate.

Apply a minimum of two coats in all applications. Additional coats will provide extended durability, texturing effect and water resistance, especially on high traffic surfaces.

Dry Times

Dry to touch: 1 hr (15oC) 30 mins (25oC) 20 mins (35oC)

Minimum recoat time 8 hrs (15oC) 6 hrs (25oC) 2 hr ( 35oc)

Maximum recoat time Open ended Open ended Open ended

Precautions

Do not apply if the temperature is below 15°C or above 35°C, or likely to fall outside these limits during the drying period. Do not apply in damp, or rainy conditions, or when rain is forecast within 24 hours.

Clean-up

Clean equipment with water, away from drains and open watercourses. Dried material may only be removed by mechanical means.
