HOW TO ACID ETCH (How to acid etch before painting with LUXAPOOL® Epoxy Pool Paint)
About the Video
Suitable surfaces:
- New cement render
- Marblesheen
- Pebblecrete and
- Pools previously painted with an epoxy coating
Before you begin you will need:
- A pool surface that has been washed with LUXAPOOL Concentrated Wash
- An abraded painted epoxy coating surface
- Commercial hydrochloric or muriatic acid (around 30-35 L for an average size pool)
- Bicarbonate of soda (about 4-6 kg for an average size pool)
- Two plastic buckets
- Underwater putty
- Two plastic watering cans
- Water
- High pressure water blaster
- Protective clothing
- Rubber gloves, mask, boots and goggles
Step 1: Remove loose or flaking paint
Step 2: Wear protective clothing when acid etching.
Step3: Prepare quantities of acid and water.
Step 4: Mix acid in water.
NEVER ADD WATER TO ACID; always add acid to water.
Step 5: Pour the etching solution over the walls of the pool.
Then rinse.
NEVER ALLOW THE ACID RESIDUE TO DRY ON THE SURFACE.
Step 6: Neutralise the surface with a solution of 1 kg bicarbonate of soda dissolved in 10 L water.
NEVER ALLOW BICARBONATE RESIDUE TO DRY ON THE SURFACE.
Step 7: Inspect pool surface for divots.
Step 8: Allow the pool surface to dry before any further surface preparation.
